There are as many ways to help the animals as there are people in this world. At Heartland we know that most people want to help, but many are unsure how. Often people feel they don’t have enough time or money to make a difference. Some people don’t realize that their skills in gardening, retail sales, photography, teaching (or any other area) can all be put to great use for the animals.

We have a number of structured programs (Volunteering, Fostering, Donating, ThriftShop assistance) that fit the needs of animal lovers. However, we have the flexibility to work with you in any manner you feel is appropriate.

Volunteering at the shelter is often a very rewarding experience.

Some people believe volunteering at the shelter would be "too sad." We find the facility to be a hopeful world filled with wags and purrs. Still, we invite you to be involved off-site at the Cat’s Meow Thrift Shop by helping at special events or by doing projects at home. Love to sew? Make our shelter dogs neckerchiefs to help them stand out in a crowd. Have lots of friends? Ask them to donate their old towels and blankets to the shelter. Donations of time and money are always appreciated. However, we also always need ambassadors in the community, people like you who understand our mission and support us simply by telling others about our work. Let the world know by your actions and your words that responsible pet guardianship goes hand-in-hand with a healthy, compassionate community and world.
